Gerrard celebrates his second scoring penalty

Steven Gerrard kept Liverpool's placing on track in the Premiere League after scoring two penalties, resulting in a 2-1 victory over West Ham at Upton Park.

Liverpool is currently 2 points ahead from Chelsea with both teams playing the equal amount of matches; they have a 4 point lead over City, who played two matches less.

Gerrard successfully put the first goal into the net before half time which was definitely an outstanding result from the Reds. But Anthony Taylor made a mistake just two minutes after, as Andy Carroll hit Simon Mignolet in the face to help Demel score the first ball for West Ham.

In the second half, Liverpool appeared to be struggling to seal the victory with another goal. Especially with West Ham's style of play by making the field small for Liverpool. Lucas running towards Philippe Coutinho did not help, but was eventually a pass from him that created the second goal - a ball through to Jon Flanagan, who was tripped by Adrian, giving yet another penalty for Gerrard to score once more. Liverpool managed to successfully seal the victory, leading with 74 points in the league.

Chelsea vs Stoke City: 3-0, Blues back on track

Chelsea have put themselves in a bit of a struggle after their disappointing defeat against Crystal Palace and Aston Villa, but right now they appear to be back on the right track and up for a title challenge. The Blues are hot on the heels of the Reds with only 2 points away from Liverpool which is currently 74 points at the top of the league.

Mohamed Salah brilliantly scored the first goal for Chelsea in the 32nd minute, lifting up the spirit for Chelsea's fate in victory. Branislav Ivanovic scored in the 41st minute but unfortunately was rejected by the assistant referee for being offside. Asmir Begovic saved Lampard's shot but Chelsea's record scorer made up for the 250th goal of his career.

Willian added a third score for Chelsea in the 73rd minute, sealing the victory with a nice curve to the top corner from 20 yards away.

Jose Mourinho declared that Chelsea's fate in winning the title was over after last week's lost to Crystal Palace but there is still hope for them if they continue to win the next remaining six games.

World number one Datuk Lee Chong Wei wins India Open twice

World number one Lee Chong Wei wins the India Open title in the men's singles for the second consecutive year at the Yonex Sunrise India Open Super Series 2014 badminton championships.

The battle ended in the favour of Malaysians, beating the world's number two China player Chen Long with 21-13 and 21-17. The 31 year old player dedicates his victory to his son Kingston Lee who will be turning one on the 12th of April.

Now, Lee Chong Wei will be focusing on his next tournament which is the Singapore Open. The Malaysian, who has won over 50 career titles targets to at least win one gold medal in an Asian Games or Olympic gold medal this time round. He plans to retire after the 2016 Olympics in Rio, Brazil.

Chong Wei urges youngsters to train harder

World No. 1 badminton player Lee Chong Wei is out to steal the victory in the men's singles department following the performances of his junior players at the Malaysian Grand Prix Gold last week.

The Malaysian player will start his encounter in the Indian Open Wednesday in New Delhi and the odds are most likely to be in his favour - to bring cheer to Malaysian fans in the tournament.

The 31-year-old Chong Wei will take on a qualifier in the opening round. He sympathised with his juniors, urging them to continue training hard to prepare for Malaysia's future tournaments and in order to maintain Malaysians as World No. 1 badminton player title.

"The reality is that the standard of some of our youngsters is not there yet. I hope they will not be demoralised but will train harder. It all depends on the quality of their training. If they are willing to go the extra mile in training, it will translate to good results in the competition. They just have to keep trying in other tournaments." said Chong Wei on Monday.

Chong Wei also wishes that his juniors Liew Daren and Chong Wei Feng will be back on their feet soon after injuring themselves in the Malaysian Open GP Gold.

"It is unfortunate that injuries are hampering their progress. I have suffered injuries before and I understand their predicament. I just hope they will be in good form at the Thomas Cup Finals."

"The tournament should be a good warm-up for most of players ahead of the Thomas Cup Finals.

"Many of India's singles players have improved. I will stay focused and do what I like to do best - enjoy myself on the court," added Chong Wei, who has won the Indian Open twice - in 2011 and 2013.

The heat is on for the EPL titles as Brandon Rogers lead Liverpool to the top of the table

The title race is on after Liverpool thrashed Tottenham 4-0 while Chelsea lost to Crystal Palace 1-0 and a Manchester City draw with Arsenal 1-1. Liverpool, under the leadership of Brandon Rodgers can finally secure themselves an EPL title for the first time in 24 years.

Liverpool is currently leading at the top of the table with 71 points which is 2 points above Chelsea and 4 points above Manchester City with 2 games in hand.

With only six fixtures to go the race is in Liverpool's hands, and their home encounters against Chelsea (2nd place) and Manchester City (3rd place)

Liverpool have won 14 out of 16 home matches scoring 47 goals in the process this whole season. This proves to be a challenge and threat to Chelsea and Manchester City who will travel to Anfield to hopefully win Liverpool and secure the title themselves.

Woods out of Masters due to back surgery

Woods' back problems will force him to miss the Masters for the first time in his 20 year long career, the golfer announced on Tuesday.

Tiger woods went for a microdiscectomy for a pinched nerved and claimed that it was successful but a few weeks of good rest is compulsory.

"After attempting to get ready for the Masters, and failing to make the necessary progress, I decided, in consultation with my doctors, to have this procedure done," Woods mentioned on his website. It is clear that he has been warned about his "career-threatening injury" and most like will not be able to make it for the Masters.

Woods has faced many obstacles like injuries in his long career. He hasn't won a major championship since the 2008 U.S Open.

World Cup Stadium Construction Halted after death of Brazilian worker

Construction officials are halting the construction work of the World Cup stadium due to a death of a labor worker last weekend, creating a headache for the Brazilian officials trying to get the stadium ready for the international football tournament's opening match on the 12th of June.

The installation of new safety rails on Tuesday came a day after labor officials mentioned the addition of 20,000 temporary seats at the Itaquerao stadium couldn't proceed till safety concerns were addressed. 

Fabio Hamilton da Cruz, 23, died after falling from 26 feet while working on the temporary structures on Saturday.

Authorities claimed that he did not connect himself to a safety cable while he was working, the accident could not be avoided. According to witnesses, the worker said he only had a "quick thing" to finish at the site.

Fast Engenharia, the construction company in charge of the temporary seats confirmed that the worker had all the required safety equipments with him.

Brazilian organizers are worried about this problem as construction is already behind schedule because of the damage caused by yet another unfortunate accident that killed 2 workers following a crane collapse in November last year. A giant roofing structure fell on part of the stadium's facade, troubling organizers to proceed with the construction work.

Seven workers have died in accidents at construction sites of World Cup venues so far.
