Brazil legend reportedly retires at 41

Brazilian footballer, Rivaldo Vitor Borba Ferreira (born 19 April 1972)

Former Barcelona, AC Milan and Brazilian playmaker has officially retired from playing at the age of 41. Rivaldo is best known for his many titles such as Fifa World Cup Player of the Year in 1999 and was also known as the 2002 World Cup winner. He had been playing for 24 years. 

With tears in my eyes today I would like to thank God, my family and all the support, the affection that I received during those 24 years as a player," he said in a statement on his Instagram.

Rivaldo receives the Ballon d'Or

Apart from winning medals, trophies and awards, he also played a part in world history and this surely proves his successful life of a football player. Throughout 24 years of his career, he played for a total of 14 clubs which peaked in 1999 when he succeeded the Ballon d'Or and being a part of the national side to clinch the World Cup three years later.

"I have to thank the lovely career I have built over these years. There were many obstacles, challenges, waivers, longings, disappointments, but there were much greater joys, achievements, growth, change." said Rivaldo
